Megan McPhaden

Megan McPhaden is a digital journalist from Pickering, Ontario and graduate of Fanshawe College's Broadcast Journalism program and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Huron University College at Western University. In September 2016, she began her Master of Journalism degree at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
In the summer 2016/2015 Megan worked as an editorial and web assistant at Ontario Out of Doors magazine. She recently passed her firearms course and acquired her hunting license.
In July 2015 Megan sojourned to Korea to cover the 28th Universiade in Gwangju, The Universiade also known as the world university games is the second largest multi-sport event in the world behind the Olympics. Megan was selected as one of 12 sports journalists from around the world for the International University Sport Federation Young Reporters program. During the program Megan wrote stories for the FISU website, produced and interviewed athletes for FISU TV and had learned from sports industry leaders such as UN Special Advisor Wilfried Lemke, FISU Press officer Christian Pierre and FISU Executive Committee member Verena Burk.
Megan worked as a reporter and weekend news anchor for 104.7 Heart FM.
Megan recently completed an internship with CNN's Washington D.C bureau where she was an intern on the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.
During her time at Huron, Megan wrote for Western University's daily newspaper the Western Gazette where she covered various varsity sports. Megan then transferred to Fanshawe College to pursue a diploma in broadcast journalism.
In 2014 Megan was nominated for Fanshawe College's News Writer of the Year award. During her first year at Fanshawe, Megan was the winner of the 660 News Diversity Radio Television and Digital News Foundation award for her radio documentary about the London Blizzard's sledge hockey team. She competed against students from across the country. Megan was also nominated for the Fanshawe College in house awards for Most Promising Current Affairs producer for her short feature about the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre.
From 2012 to 2014 Megan worked for Fanshawe's licensed radio station 106.9 the X in several capacities as a Reporter, Newscaster and Current Affairs producer. She has produced various live and pre-recorded talk shows including long and short form features. She also has reported for 106.9 the X on the sports and business beats. Covering breaking news such as the General Dynamics Land Systems multi-billion dollar contract with Dubai to produce light armoured military vehicles. The largest contract of it's kind in Canadian history. Megan has also covered a wide variety of beats including; court, city hall, education and medical.
While attending Fanshawe Megan also wrote for the weekly paper Interrobang covering various sports, local news, entertainment and issue-specific topics. She also concurrently as an occasional play-by-play commentator for Western University's varsity volleyball and hockey on Mustang T.V.
