Penalties on second-hand clothing imports imposed by some East African countries are putting pressure on a lot of people who rely on the trade in Canada and abroad: from the charities that collect our discarded clothes to the recyclers, resellers and workers employed along the way.

Canadian government spends billions settling lawsuits with Indigenous people

The $800-million proposed agreement with Sixties Scoop survivors that was announced by the federal government on Friday isn't the first aiming to compensate Indigenous people for historical wrongs. In recent years, federal, provincial and territorial governments have reached settlements totalling billions of dollars.
