GWANGJU - My seventh day on the job at the 28th edition of the Universiade in Gwangju, Korea I had the opportunity to cover women's basketball. The first game was special because Canada was playing Mozambique in their final game of the group stage. Representing Team Canada from Pickering, Ontario and my high school - Dunbarton High School - is Wumi Agunbiade. I had written an article about Wumi a year ago when she signed a professional contract with a Romanian basketball club. I remember playing against Wumi in elementary school and knowing we were never going to win because Gandatsetiagon Public School had the tallest player. Fortunately after the game (Canada easily won) I got to catch up with Wumi and talk to her about her exciting news. She has signed a contract to play with a division 1 German basketball team this season.
Davis Harrigan (Australia) and I sat down to recap our first day covering archery, volleyball and diving at the Universiade. |
